Pastor at First Baptist Church, Kenner
It’s possible that Pastor Mike Miller has fit so well in this city because New Orleans loves characters. He enjoys life, sports, laughter, and having people into his home for an evening of fellowship. He would rather preach than eat, sees himself as a pastor’s pastor, and loves everything about church-work except the occasional griping from God’s people about inconsequential things.
Mike graduated from the famous “Friday Night Lights” high school (Permian H.S.) in Odessa , Texas . He took a degree in aviation from Louisiana Tech and piloted jet planes around the country before God thrust him into the ministry. He has led churches in Texas , Maryland , and Alabama —before arriving in Kenner in the summer of ’08. Our nomadic preacher earned a master’s degree from our Southern Baptist seminary in Fort Worth, a doctor of ministry from the seminary in Louisville , and a Ph.D. from the seminary in New Orleans. Wife Terri says that is quite enough schooling! Known as a “preaching dude,” Mike teaches preaching and pastoral courses at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
Mike and Terri are the parents of Bryan, Bailey, and Michael. Mike wants to make Kenner a mission-minded church, plays golf and runs for exercise, relaxes by reading the novels of Robert Ludlum and James Patterson, and his radio stays tuned to the classic rock station. Given the opportunity to take a person of his choice to dinner, Mike would opt for Clint Eastwood, and would take him to the Sun Ray Grill in the Warehouse District.
We said he was a character.
